The hotel industry has been in an uproar since the launch of the Trump International Hotel and Tower on January 6, 2018.
But a report released Tuesday by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, a New York City-based advocacy group, suggests the hotel has failed to meet the standards set by industry leaders like Marriott International, which is the second-largest hotel operator in the U.S. According to the report, the Trump hotel is an example of a business that’s been too good to get right.
The institute found that the Trump Hotel was built without the proper permits and has no business licenses.
The hotel was also built without sufficient security measures.
“In addition to the lack of business license, the hotel was built with limited real estate management and was built for a fraction of its intended use,” the institute wrote in a report.
“While a majority of the hotel’s tenants are in the city, they are largely unskilled, poorly paid workers and residents, and are not the majority of its customers.
The Trump Hotel also lacked a minimum occupancy requirement and failed to provide adequate parking and access to restrooms.
The average occupancy rate was just 5 percent.”
The institute added that the hotel also failed to comply with local laws in the area where the hotel is located.
“The hotel was not inspected for compliance with the New York Building Code,” the report stated.
“It is not clear whether the hotel complies with the provisions of New York State Building Code, New York Municipal Code, and New York Business & Professions Code, as well as the Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act.”
The Institute for Legal Reform, which works to protect workers and communities, also slammed the Trump hotels for its lack of security measures and lack of parking and restrooms.
“Despite the high demand for the hotel, there were not enough employees to secure its floors,” the group said in a statement.
“As a result, employees were not properly trained or equipped to manage the building, and it did not have a properly staffed fire department.
This was not the hotel that the city needed and was not adequately prepared for the extreme pressure that the event would be.”
The Trump International has received numerous awards, including a 2017 Gold Medal of the Hotel & Resort Management Association.
The city’s fire department has also received praise for its response.
“A total of 16 firefighters were dispatched to the scene,” the department wrote on its Facebook page on Monday.
“Four of them were on scene for over 15 minutes.
One firefighter had to use a tourniquet to get through a gash in the window.”
